Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (1 Peter 1: 1-4)

To become a Spirit born believer and follower of Jesus Christ, you must turn from your own efforts toward self-righteousness and realize that it is futile. You need to accept instead, the righteousness of God. God is our Creator, and after Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, all creation became subject to both a physical and spiritual death penalty. Only God could rescue His creation. He did so by veiling Himself in flesh and coming to dwell among mankind. His name is Jesus Christ. He was fully human, and fully divine. This can be said about no other spiritual leader in the world. Jesus gave His life in order to pay the price for our sins. We must turn to Him, put our trust in Him and in His redemption, in order to avoid an eternity of torment and regret.

As the above verses from 1 Peter say, ‘His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.’ His power is found in His word. As we come to know and understand His word better, we come to know Him better. He has given us precious promises in His word. However, if we do not know what these promises are, we do not really understand who He is.

Many people in our lives may ‘leave us’ or ‘forsake us,’ often those people who should feel an obligation to care for us. All of us make choices that disappoint ourselves, and others. But, God has promised never to leave us or forsake us. If you are dealing with a loss of someone special in your life, you can turn to the only one who will never leave you – Jesus Christ. You can be assured that He will never leave you. He will always be there for you. Counsel from Hebrews says, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13: 5)

It may be that the loss that you are experiencing is actually an opportunity for you to come to understand God better. If you do not become bitter towards God about your loss, and tell Him how you are feeling, you will see that He will sustain you. He will give you comfort. He will assure you of His love and care for you. Often our greatest trials are opportunities for us to grow closer to God and understand in a new way how loving and caring He is.
